Trail Criú Munster

Who We Are

Trail Criú Munster began with an informal group run up the beautiful Torc Mountain in Killarney National Park in July 2024. Since then, we have run together in places such as Mount Claragh, Bweengduff, Gougane Barra, Glansheskin Woods, and Rahan Woods in Co. Cork; Seefin Mountain and Cannon Sheehan in the Ballyhouras, Co Cork/Limerick; and along the Kerry Way in Co. Kerry. In 2025 the group has grown, and we have evolved into the Mountaineering Ireland club Trail Criú Munster. Together we have climbed mountains, run, hiked, eaten cake, practised our navigation, and had endless amounts of fun.

Our aim is to break down barriers to access and increase diversity and inclusion on the beautiful trails and mountains around Munster by creating opportunities for migrants, women, and other underrepresented groups to join us and enjoy movement in nature. Our members hail from many cultures and countries all around the world, and everyone is welcome to join us to run and hike together in friendship.

Where we run

Monthly Runs/hikes:

Each month, we get together somewhere in Munster to gather members from across the region for run or hike. There are so many mountains and trails to explore and enjoy!

Everyone is welcome on these runs. We cater to all paces and never leave anyone behind.

We always end these events with some treats and drinks and a lovely post-run chat!

Weekly run series:

We organise seasonal weekly social run series on the trails near Mallow in North Cork. These runs are suitable for anyone, whether you’re brand new to running or brand new to the trails! We have carpooling options available from Mallow town.

All our events are advertised on our Instagram page @trailcriumunster. You can also email us at trailcriumunster@gmail.com with any enquiries.

Committee Members

Marie (Chairperson)

Marie is a trail runner with a love for the longer distances and can often be spotted running or walking in the hills and mountains of Cork and Kerry. Originally from Sweden, she made North Cork her home in 2022. When not enjoying the outdoors, planning fun adventures for the Club, or hanging out with her favourite dogs and humans, Marie works as a lecturer in international law at UCC. You can hear more about Marie and her passion for inclusivity on the trails here.

Annemarie (Treasurer and Gear Officer)

Annemarie’s love for trails began back when she lived in Dublin and found escape from city and road running in the Dublin and Wicklow mountains. Since moving to Cork in 2020, she has run, jogged and hiked the trails and mountains in North Cork, Limerick and Kerry.

Annemarie is an Athletics Ireland certified endurance coach and supports our beginners and couch to trail participants. She found her passion for two-way community integration through her involvement with Sanctuary Runners.

Adrian (Secretary)

Adrian is a trail and ultra runner with a love for the outdoors. He is originally from Australia, and has been exploring the trails and mountains around Munster since moving to Ireland in 2022. As TCM Secretary, Adrian provides administrative support to the club and joins most of our outings.

Adan (Migrant Engagement Officer)

Adan joined us on our first group trail run in July 2024, the run that inspired the creation of Trail Criú Munster! His running career began when he moved to Ireland and ran with Sanctuary Runners in Poppintree. Since then, he has become a key member of both Sanctuary Runners Mallow and Trail Criú Munster. As a key founding member of TCM, Adan encourages others to get involved and supports our communications within the international protection community.
